Anyone who has ridden in the Kiewa Valley knows the vista out to Mount Bogong between the townships of Tawonga and Mount Beauty. If you are on the road early enough the mist sits on the river as it snakes through the dairy farms on the flats and the sun rises from behind the range, hitting the valley walls and eventually turning the spring growth to brilliant golds and greens.
Our favourite ride is out along Mountain Creek Road toward the base of Bogong, where the tarmac stops and the fire trails and climbing tracks begin. Leave your start a bit later in the day during winter and you will get glorious views of the snow covered peaks. In summer it's best to avoid the heat of the day with an early morning start - it's worth every bit of the early rise.
With it's steady spinning gradient all the way out and a chance to hit some big ring speed as you head back in, this ride is perfect for a chat with friends, time with family or simply some quiet two-wheeled contemplation before coffee in town. Enjoy.
